Fair Child Dresses

Cake balls a plenty were promised, but I didn’t expect the bumblebees.

The Princess and I went to the Vera Bradley fall launch at our favorite store. And Nan showered us with goodies and hugs as usual.

But she always has something up her sleeve. I should know this.

On this particular morning, she had a porch rack full of gorgeous smocked little girl dresses for $10 – $25 dollars. Each.

Princess loved the yellow flowers with tiny bees around the smocked front, and the pink floral pattern with tiny roses so we were in for $50 before we even set foot inside!

But when I learned that ALL the proceeds from the sale of the dresses went to the ladies in Cambodia that handmade them, I didn’t think twice about loading up. Turns out, Nan’s friend is a missionary to Cambodia and taught the women there how to sew these pretty frocks.

And you know I am envious of anyone who can sew. Especially with smocking. Sheesh.

And I have to admit, there’s an element of intrigue as I envision the ladies in Cambodia gathered together, laughing and sharing sisterhood, to make these twirly dresses that have quickly become favorites in our house.

So if you’re sewing challenged as myself, and like the thought of supporting Fair Trade, give Nan a ring. She’ll have them at Pink House until the 18th and she’ll ship anywhere. (Sizes 2 – 6)
